BENGALURU: The prices of premium brands of Indian Made Liquor (IML) have been slashed by 15-25 per cent in the state with effect from Tuesday. This was done by reducing excise duty slabs from 18 to 16 after comparision with other states.
So far, excise duty was being levied on different types of liquor in 18 slabs in the state. While every bulk litre of declared produce of alcohol costing Rs 449 was in the first slab, those costing above Rs 15,000 per bulk litre of declared produce was in the 18th slab.
Now, as per the revised slabs, every bulk litre of declared produce costing Rs 450 will be in the first slab while that costing Rs 20,000 and above will be in the 16th slab.
With this, the prices of alcohol up to the 16th slab will be reduced by anywhere between 15 and 25 per cent of the present rates.
