MADIKERI: For the second time in as many days, the border villages in Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada villages felt tremors lasting about three seconds at 7.45 am on Tuesday.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), tremors measuring 3 on the Richter scale were felt 5.2 km northwest of Chembu village in Madikeri taluk at a depth of 15 km. There was no report of loss to life or property.
The rumbling were felt at Karike, Peraje, Aravathoklu, Bhagamandala, Napoklu, Karnageri, Kallugundi and Sampaje villages. This is the third time in a week that tremors have been felt.
The frequent tremors may be an indication of a major natural disaster, locals feel.
“Tremors may be felt in a 50-km radius, but there is no cause for panic. If people feel any tremors and come across cracks in the ground, they can inform the district disaster management cell (08272-221077, 221099) or 1022”, said disaster management expert Ananya Vasudev Ranjithkumar.
