After furore, BBMP to regularise jobs of 11,000 civic workers next week

BENGALURU: A day after civic workers threatened protest over the selection process for regularisation of their jobs, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday announced that it will regularise the services of all the remaining 11,000 workers in its limits.

The BBMP had invited applications from Group-D employees to regularise 3,611 posts under waste management and sanitation works in different wards and had announced a provisional list.

However, the pourakarmikas had alleged that the provisional list was not correct and that the selection process illegal. They had pointed out that the jobs of 8-10 people from a single family had been regularised.They had claimed that fake documents had been submitted and bribed paid to officials and threatened to stage a protest in front of the CM’s house on Sunday.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had earlier promised the civic workers of regularising their jobs and 3,611 jobs were to be regularised in the first phase. Now the government has planned to regularise the jobs of the remaining 11,000 pourakarmikas next week. The BBMP has 16,500 civic workers in its limits.

The BBMP chief commisioner has already submitted a report to the government on regularising the jobs of pourakarmikas and has held meetings at the zonal level on the issue. The civic body is now making preparations to regularise their jobs by next week.
