Mysuru bus shelter with domes gets quick makeover; NHAI for demolition

MYSURU: The bus shelter on the Mysuru-Udhagamandalam Road with domes, which Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha had warned of demolishing, got a further makeover on Wednesday with a new nameplate and photos of political leaders. The colour of the domes was also changed after spires were installed to make it look like a ‘kalash’.

Pratap Simha had raised objections to domes built on bus shelters in Krishnaraja Assembly constituency in the city. He had warned that he would get an earthmover himself and demolish the structure if the Mysore City Corporation does not do it.

On Wednesday, the name of the bus shelter was changed to JSS College Bus Shelter. Portraits of Suttur Mutt Adi Jagadguru and Shree Rajendra Swamiji’s photos were installed on one side and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s photos were put up on the other side of the bus shelter.

The Karnataka State Reserve Police were also deployed near the bus shelter to prevent any untoward incident.

Earlier, photos of  Krishnaraja Assembly constituency MLA S A Ramadass, the Mysuru palace and the Chamundeshwari temple were installed inside the bus shelter.

The National Highways Authority of India has sent a notice to the commissioner of the Mysore City Corporation to demolish the controversial bus shyelter.

Meanwhile, the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sent a notice to the commissioner of the Mysore City Corporation to demolish the unauthorised bus shelter in the city. The controversial bus shelted was constructed despite the work being stopped many in the past.

The NHAI has asked to clear the bus shelter stating that it has become a communal issue.
