BENGALURU: The civic body’s mandate on keeping vacant residential sites clean led to the uncovering of a murder and the eventual arrest of the victim’s husband.
The body of an unidentified woman, which was in a decomposed state, was found by some workers while cleaning a site at MS Nagar Nagar Agrahara Layout near Sampigehalli a few weeks ago. Following the discovery, the owners immediately complained to the Sampigehalli police station.
During investigation, it came to light that the victim’s husband had murdered her and dumped the body in the vacant site. The victim was identified as Anusuya (28) and her husband is Sagar Chandra Rawat (32). The police have since arrested Rawat.
The couple hailed from Odisha and came to Bengaluru where they were working in different places. They had fallen in love and got married two years ago without the knowledge of Anusuya’s family. The woman’s family came to know to about her marriage only after her death.
However, the couple quarrelled frequently over financial issue with Anusuya even going to the hotel where Sagar worked as a kitchen supervisor. On August 11, they had quarrelled and come home where the argument continued and the husband murdered the wife by strangulating her.
Sagar stayed in the house with his wife’s body for three days. After that, he wrapped the body in a bedsheet and dumped it in a vacant site so as not to arouse suspicion. For 4-5 days after that, he was moving around the vacant site to observe if anyone comes there.
Anusuya’s body was found after 20 days after the murder and dogs had dragged decomposed dead body. Police found some tags on the clothes which were purchased in a mall and after checking the bill in the mall, Anusuya’s identity was established. In the meantime, the police had got the body cremated.
Sagar had continued working in the hotel as usual and when the police inquired with the hotel staff, they came to know that the couple would quarrel often. When the accused was taken into custody and questioned, the murder came to light. Police arrested the accused within a week of the body being found.
