DAMASCUS: A minibus exploded in the city of Jaramana, southeast of Damascus, Syria, on Thursday (local time), killing two people and injuring 13 others after an explosive device planted inside the vehicle detonated during peak traffic hours.
Syrian authorities said the blast was caused by an explosive device concealed inside the minibus and confirmed that security forces had launched an investigation into the incident, Al Jazeera reported. The explosion occurred on Al-Rawda Street, one of the busiest thoroughfares in central Jaramana, during rush hour.
A security official at the site told Al Jazeera that the explosive device had been planted inside the vehicle. While the minibus was almost completely destroyed in the blast, surrounding shops and a neighbouring bus suffered only limited damage. Residents and rescue workers rushed to the scene to assist victims.

According to state news agency SANA, a security source confirmed that an explosive device detonated inside a bus in Jaramana, located in the Damascus countryside.
Najeeb al-Nassan, Director of the Health Ministry’s Referral, Ambulance and Emergency Directorate, told SANA that body parts had been found at the scene and were being handled by forensic teams in accordance with established procedures.
A source at Syria’s Ministry of Health also confirmed that human remains were recovered from the site and were being processed by forensic authorities. The ministry said it was closely monitoring the situation following the explosion and had raised the level of preparedness at nearby hospitals, as well as ambulance and emergency response units, according to SANA.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet announced who was responsible for planting the explosive device.
The bombing comes a month after two terrorist attacks near Syria’s Ministry of Tourism in Damascus on July 7 that killed one person and injured 36 others. Syrian authorities announced the arrest of those involved in those attacks two days later, according to SANA. (ANI)
