BELAGAVI: A young woman who jumped into Malaprabha river to commit suicide, was rescued near Nayananagar in Bailhongal taluk.
The woman attempted suicide by jumping from about 120 feet above into the river. Seeing the woman drowning in the river, a local, Mallikarjun Ganiger, who was at the scene, rescued her life. Despite the strong currents of the water, Mallikarjun risked his own life and rescued the young woman.
Police and locals have praised Mallikarjun for his heroic act. Meanwhile, the reason why the young woman attempted suicide is still unclear. Further investigation is under way.
