KALABURAGI: Even before the case of a POCSO accused escaping from a police station in Kalaburagi has faded from memory, three convicted prisoners escaped from Kalaburagi Central Prison. This has once again caused embarrassment to Home Minister Priyank Kharge in his home district, with the police force slipping up.

The notorious Kalaburagi Central Prison, which is always in the news for one reason or another, is in the spotlight again. At 3 am on Tuesday, three convicted prisoners sentenced in murder cases — Mastan, Santosh and Sagar — broke out of the jail barrack. After that, they tied their clothes together like a rope, climbed the prison compound wall and escaped.

However, several doubts have been raised about this escape — what were the jail staff doing when the barrack was broken into at midnight? After coming out of the barrack, when they climbed the compound, why did the solar alarm installed on top of the wall fail? Such multiple suspicions have now fallen on the prison staff, and doubts have also started that the accused escaped with the help of some jail staff.

As soon as the three convicted prisoners escaped, the jail staff informed Farhatabad police. Immediately, Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Dr Sharannappa, DCP Shaloo and several senior police officers visited the Central Prison and inspected it. They collected CCTV footage from inside and outside the jail, and Police Commissioner Dr. Sharannappa has formed a total of four teams for the arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, regarding the prisoners’ case in the prison, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra took a dig at Home Minister Priyank Kharge. He said the Home Minister is busy with the Iran-America war instead of paying attention to what is happening in his home portfolio and home district, and gave this tongue-lashing to Priyank Kharge.

A case has been registered at Farhatabad police station regarding the escape of the accused. Senior prison officials are also furious about the escape of the prisoners, and are preparing to take strict action against guilty jail staff after an internal inquiry.
