BENGALURU: To address the growing traffic problems in the city, Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda had directed the police department to submit a report. Following this, the traffic police have prepared the report and submitted it to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) after identifying 750 traffic signals and intersections which see congestion.

Last month, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda had instructed traffic police to prepare a report on ways to reduce traffic congestion at junctions across the city. As per the minister’s directions, the traffic police have prepared a report on solving the increasing traffic issues at city junctions and has sent a letter to GBA requesting necessary action.

In the report, traffic police have requested BBMP to repair roads at around 750 junctions in the city. They noted that potholes and damaged roads at these 750 junctions are worsening traffic congestion. Because the roads at junctions are in poor condition, vehicle travel time is increasing. Citing this, the traffic police have requested GBA to scientifically repair the damaged roads at signal intersections.

“Traffic congestion at signals and intersections is mainly due to bad roads, speed breakers and potholes. After analysing the situation, we have identified 750 such spots and written to the GBA that these places should be asphalted. Also, at nine locations, there are road humps near traffic signals and they have to be removed. These 750 locations are all in important parts of the city. We prepared the report on the direction of the Bengaluru development minister”, said Karthik Reddy, Joint Commissioner (traffic).
As per the minister’s instructions, ground staff from the traffic division were used to analyze junctions and intersections, collect data, and prepare the report. The report also found that there are humps at nine traffic signals in the city, which are contributing to traffic problems. Traffic police have urged BBMP to remove them immediately.
