BENGALURU: Amid the ongoing footpath encroachment eviction drive intensified in the city, the Bangalore Milk Union Ltd (BAMUL) is now on full alert. It gathered information about Nandini booths located on footpaths in the city and held a high-voltage meeting on what steps need to be taken to prevent the shops from being cleared.
For the last three days, the footpath encroachment clearance drive has picked up pace in Bengaluru, and footpaths are being made free for pedestrian movement. Meanwhile, BAMUL officials are collecting information about Nandini booths on footpaths.
There are a total of 612 Nandini parlours in Bengaluru and some of these are on footpaths. Some people obtained permission from BAMUL officials for setting up Nandini parlours and franchises at specific locations, but set up shops on footpaths itself. The fear of eviction has now started among owners of such Nandini booth shops. If Nandini booths are cleared, there is a possibility that the Nandini brand will also get a bad image.

Against this backdrop, an important meeting was held on Friday with the managing directors of five milk unions within Bengaluru limits. At the meeting, BAMUL officials have reportedly instructed all booth and franchise owners to request for time if there are Nandini booths on footpaths so they are not cleared, and to show their permission letter if they are properly located at an authorised spot.
Some people obtained permission letters from BAMUL officials to do business at designated locations, but were doing business on footpaths. BAMUL officials had also warned such owners about this. Now, BAMUL has decided not to support those who have set up shops in violation of the law.
