TUMAKURU: Officials raided an orphanage on allegations of confinement and harassment of women and men without any government permission, and rescued around 64 women including men. The incident took place in Ganada Hunase village near Bukkapatna in Sira taluk, Tumakuru district.
A woman named Kavitha was running an ashram under the name Bhedastha Nirashritara Kendra. Without any basic facilities, everyone had been locked up in a dark room. Additionally, there were allegations that the women here were being used for immoral activities.

In this backdrop, Sadhana Mahila Sangha had filed a complaint with the Women and Child Welfare Department. Based on the complaint, Women Protection Officer Ambika and Sira Tahsildar Ananda conducted the raid. During this, it was found that they were confined in a dark room in unhygienic conditions. All the victims were immediately shifted to a destitute centre near Kora.
A complaint has been registered at Sira police station in connection with this case.
