Based on the fare hike committee report, it is expected that there will be a 15-17 per cent hike in BMTC while it will be 15 per cent in the three other transport corporations. In all probability, the revised fare will come into effect even before Deepavali.

On the proposed bus fare hike, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said that the Transport Department will decide. When asked about whether bus fares would be increased, he said, “The Transport Department has suffered heavy losses, and there were no funds even for diesel. The government is providing free bus travel for women. Therefore, the Transport Department itself has been asked to take a decision on this matter”.
