The victims were chased and attacked with a long machete and the attack was captured on was caught on CCTV camera. Though the incident took place on the April 14 of last month, it has come to light only now.

Yellappa and Anjan, both residents of Heggondanahalli, carried out the attack, while Murali and Arun were injured. The root of the conflict is a dispute over 2.13 guntas of land in Survey No. 77/2, Heggondanahalli. Yellappa and Murali’s families have been locked in litigation over the property. On April 1, Yellappa’s family suddenly brought in an excavator and tried to construct a road on the disputed land. In response, Murali’s family filed a complaint at Varthur police station, and an FIR was registered.

Just three days later, Murali’s family was subjected to a deadly attack. Even before the assault, Murali’s family had approached senior police officers and the Karnataka SC/ST Commission, stating that their lives are in danger. They had alleged a conspiracy to murder key family members and had sought protection.

Following the complaint, the ACP of Marathahalli Sub-Division was directed to provide security to the family. The family now alleges, “Despite our complaint to Varthur police, we’re not being given protection. In the attack, one hand was severed, fingers were chopped off and a leg was fractured with serious injuries. Yet the accused are out on bail and are threatening to wipe out our entire family. We believe the police are colluding with the accused.” The distressed family broke down before the media, pleading for protection.
