CHIKKAMAGALUR: A massive forest fire has been burning in the Muthodi range of Chikkamagalur district for the past two days, destroying rare flora and fauna, and putting wildlife at risk. The fire, which started in the Emrahalli and Hosakhan areas, has spread rapidly due to dry leaves and grass.
The Forest department is struggling to contain the blaze, but faces challenges due to a shortage of staff. Locals blame the department for not creating fire lines in sensitive areas, allowing the fire to spread quickly.
The fire has caused significant damage to rare plant species and poses a threat to wildlife. Animals may have fled to nearby villages and farms to escape the flames. Locals are demanding that the authorities deploy more staff and equipment to control the fire.
