BENGALURU: Miscreants switched off 240 CCTV cameras at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the recent IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The Cubbon Park police have issued notices to two employees of a private firm in connection with the incident.
The accused are employees of a company called IVS Digital Solution. Last Friday, they entered the stadium without a pass using a deactivated card and unauthorisedly accessed the CCTV server room. With the CCTVs turned off, security issues arose at the stadium.
Problems were reported at entry gates, cameras around the stadium, and the D Corporate stands. Police immediately alerted authorities, made alternate arrangements, and repaired the CCTVs. A complaint was registered at Cubbon Park police station regarding the incident.
It has come to light that the CCTVs were switched off because the staff members, Srinivas and Abdul Kalam, were not paid their salaries. Both accused are employees of IVS Digital Solution, a company that had taken a sub-contract for installing CCTVs and cables. Police received information that they committed the act out of anger over non-payment of salaries. The police have currently issued notices to both and summoned them for questioning.
Speaking on the case of CCTVs being switched off during the IPL match, Central Division DCP Akshay Hakay said that the previous CCTV installation agency had given a sub-contract to IVS. The cable was cut around 11.30 am that day. The issue came to light in the afternoon, and repair work was carried out immediately. Upon inquiry, Manjunath and Abdul Kalam were summoned and questioned. It was found that the incident occurred because they were not paid their salaries. Notices have been issued and an inquiry will be conducted.
