BENGALURU: A man was arrested for attempting to steal from a Canara Bank ATM at Seshadripuram in the city. The accused, identified as Hasan, had been planning the heist for a couple of days and had even scouted the location.
Hasan, who lives just half a kilometre away from the bank, tried to break into the ATM on Saturday night but was unsuccessful. He returned on Sunday and managed to cut the window grill, but the alarm went off and he escaped.
The next day, Hasan was seen walking towards Cubbon Park and attempted to steal from an HDFC ATM, but the alarm sounded again, and he fled.
The first time, he wore a hoodie T-shirt and tried to break in, but the alarm sounded, and he fled. Undeterred, he returned wearing a mask and tried again, but the alarm went off once more. This time, he attempted to cut the wires, but his efforts were foiled, and he escaped.
Exclusive photos of the heist attempt have been obtained, showing the suspect trying to open the ATM’s cash box at 4:27 am. He was later arrested by the police based on CCTV footage.
Hasan had taken a loan of Rs 12 lakh to build a house and was struggling to repay it. He had also developed some bad habits, which led him to attempt the burglary.
The police have been praised for identification of the accused and his arrest as he was wearing a mask to help him evade detection. Further investigation is under way.
