POCSO case accused dies after jumping from court building in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A 35-year-old undertrial, who was an accused in a POCSO case, ended his life by jumping from the fifth floor of the City Civil Court building in the city on Thursday. It is said that he could not bear the humiliation and therefore committed suicide.

The accused Gowtham was brought to the court from Parappana Agrahara jail for a court hearing. It is said that Gowtham managed to break free from the handcuffs and jumped from the court building. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

The incident occurred when Gowtham was brought to the court for a trial in a case registered at the Adugodi police station in April. The case was related to an alleged sexual assault on a minor. Gowtham’s DNA matched the evidence, and he was arrested and jailed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Akshay Machindra visited the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
