Police security was provided at the house of Indian Army Colonel Sofia Qureshi's father-in-law at Konnur.

BELAGAVI: A social media post on X claimed that the house of Indian Army Colonel Sofia Qureshi’s father-in-law at Konnur in Gokak taluk had become the ‘target of RSS-led hate’. However, Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar Guled clarified that post was fake and that there was no attack on the house.

Anis Uddin, going by the handle @uddinanis867 on X, claimed that Colonel Sofia Qureshi’s ‘family home in Belagavi’ had been targeted with an old picture of a ransacked house and a mugshot of Colonel Sofia Qureshi. Police Superintendent Guled said the user was based in Canada and had deleted the post after the police came to know about the X post.

“There has been no attack on the parental home of Colonel Tajuddin Bagewadi, the husband of Colonel Sofia Qureshi. However, as a security measure, we have posted police personnel at the house. The post was brought to our attention by th district social media monitoring team and I had commented that it was fake news after which the post was deleted”, the SP said.

The SP said the police are seeking information from the legal team of X and will register a case if the need arises. “As of now, we have not registered a case as the social media user is abroad. But if he is an Indian, we will register an FIR and arrest him for spreading fake news and inciting tensions between communities. The cyber crime police are monitoring social media networks and we will act against those inciting clashes”, the SP added.
