BELAGAVI: Director General of Police (Prisons) Alok Kumar has been conducting repeated inspections at the Hindalga jail here after the Maharashtra police shared explosive information with a court stating that gangster Jayesh Poojary has links with terrorist organisations.
Senior Maharashtra police officer DCP Nilesh Palve gave this statement to the Nagpur District and Sessions Court. The Nagpur city DCP said that Jayesh, who had threatened Union Minister Nitin Gadkari of life and demanded Rs 100 crore, had called Gadkari’s office from Hindalga Jail and threatened to destroy his house if the money was not paid.
Following this threat call, the NIA and Nagpur police had interrogated Jayesh Poojary. During the arguments in the case at the Nagpur court, investigating officer Nilesh Palve submitted information to the court about Jayesh’s terror linke. This has raised suspicions whether Belagavi is becoming a hub of terror activities.
While in Hindalga Jail, Belagavi, Jayesh Poojary allegedly carried out terror activities along with terrorist Afsar Pasha. Maharashtra Police revealed before the court that he was in contact with terror organisations along with Afsar Pasha, who is a key accused in the Bengaluru and Dhaka blasts.
Amid allegations that Hindalga Jail is allowing prisoners to lead a luxurious life, serious allegations have now surfaced that terror activities are taking place inside Hindalga Jail. For this reason, Prison DGP Alok Kumar is repeatedly visiting and inspecting Hindalga Jail. The DGP has made a surprise visit on April 16 also.
