7-year-old girl dies after gate crashes on her due to strong winds in Nelamangala

BENGALURU: A seven-year-old girl died after the iron gate of a house fell on her while she was playing outside at Vajarahalli in Nelamangala taluk on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as Yellamma (7).

The gate crashed on the girl due to strong winds prior to the rain on Thursday evening. She was the daughter of Mukkanna and Balamma who work as construction labourers and hail from Devadurga in Raichur district.

The girl’s mother said Mukkanna had gone out for work while she was alone at home. Yellamma went out to play when the gate crashed on her due to the strong winds. A case has been registered at the Nelamangala Town police station.

Meanwhile, about 70 trees and 171 branches fell due to the heavy rain on Thursday evening in the BBMP limits. These include 10 in South zone, 32 in RR Nagar, six in Bommanahalli, 10 in West, one in Mahadevapura, three in Yelahanka and six in East zones.

At NGEG Layout in Nagarbhavi, a tree and an electricity pole fell on a shed belonging to a labourer’s family. Luckily, the couple and their two children escaped. Some houses were also flooded in JJR Nagar in Chamarajpet.
