43 lakh voters in draft electoral list to get notices for updating documents

BENGALURU: After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, there are a total of 5,54,32,314 voters as per the draft voter list, said Chief Electoral Officer Anbu Kumar, as the draft voter list was published on Monday. Of these, a total of 1,07,96,339 voters are in the ASSDO list.

The process of issuing notices to a total of 43 lakh people in the draft voter list who have lack of information/documents will start from tomorrow. Registration Officers/Assistant Electoral Registration Officers/Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will issue notices and take action to conduct inquiry.
Notices will be delivered to the voter’s house itself, mentioning the date of objection hearing in the notice and opportunity will be provided to submit suitable documents and continue their name in the voter list.

The notice will be delivered personally to the concerned voter or to a family member/others at their residence. Attendance of voters is mandatory during the inquiry, and voters will have to put their signature in the attendance register. Voters can file claims and objections will be available from today till September 23. The final voter list will be published on October 27. If a voters’ name is dropped in the final list also due to lack of documents, there is opportunity to get added through Form-6.

Chief Electoral Officer Anbu Kumar, said the process of giving notices to 43 lakh voters is under way. “There will be a workshop on how notice should be given, issuance matters in the notice. Verification process will start from today. For issuing notices, more than 3,000 AROs, EROs will be appointed and the process will be completed within October 22. One ARO will get approximately 1,000 notices. For name correction, date of birth correction, address change fill Form-8”.

“Notices will be given to houses only for those whose names are in the draft roll of 43 lakh voters and where additional documentation is required. Date and place for filing objection will be fixed. They should come there and give documents. The notice given by ERO will also mention the reason. Notices will be given by going to the voters’ house in person. It will not be sent via mobile messages. There will be seven days time”, the CEO said.

“In urban areas, the problem of mapping voters is more. If Form-6 is submitted within September 23, it will be in the final voter list. An ARO or ERO must do the work of generating 150 notices daily. There is also an opportunity for voters to go for appeal which can be submitted to DC. From there, they will send it to CEO Karnataka. From here. it will be verified again”, Anbu Kumar said.

Regarding the demand of political parties for the list of people to whom notice is given in SIR process Anbu Kumar said this will be examined. “Even after giving notice, if your name is dropped from the final voter list saying documents are not correct, there is still opportunity for re-addition through Form-6. Every citizen of India has this opportunity and the process of issuing notices will start from tomorrow itself”, he added

If there is name or other error in draft voter list

  • Time for filing claims and objections is from August 24 to September 23
  • Disposal of claims and objections is from August 24 to October 22.
  • Final voter list will be published on October 10.
