Two women activists of NSUI got into an argument over posing for pictures alongside Congress leader Dr G Parameshwara.

TUMAKURU: Two women activists of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) got into a wordy duel in front the district jail here over posing for a picture with Congress leader and former Deputy CM Dr G Parameshwara.

The Congress leader was visiting the district jail to meet NSUI activists who have been arrested over the alleged attempt to set fire to Primary Education Minister B C Nagesh’s house.

The two NSUI activits, Geetha and Sahera, got into an argument over pushing and shoving while posing for cameras soon after Parameshwara left. Aware of the presence of television cameras, some of the other leaders stepped in and doused the fire.

Earlier, Parameshwara met the 25 NSUI activists who are lodged in the jail. Speaking to the media, he condemned their arrest. “The BJP government has twisted facts about Dr B R Ambedkar and Basavanna and it is our right to protest against this distortion. The NSUI activists have been arrested on false charges of trying to set fire to the minister’s house. We will fight this legally and secure their bail”, he said.

Criticising the government, he said Basavanna has been shown in a different light and Ambedkar has not been called the architect of the Constitution, and therefore, there will be a backlash.

On the alleged blasphemy issue, he felt that the BJP should have reacted before other Muslim countries started reacting. Now, terror outfits lie Al-Qaida are issuing threats and the BJP government is directly responsible for this and should apologise, he added.
