BELAGAVI: Two groups indulged in stone throwing after a group of youths raised ‘Jai Sri Ram’ chants at Patil Galli here on Monday night, leading to a tense atmosphere. The police were later deployed to prevent and escalation of the situation.
A group of youths were chanting ‘Jai Sri Ram’ when they were pelted with rocks and stones by another group, leading to retaliation. Immediately, the policemen on duty resorted to mild lathicharge following which both groups dispersed.
Two platoons of the KSRP were deployed as a security measure. The Market police, who visited the spot, are checking CCTV footage to identify the attackers.
