BENGALURU: Beer lovers may soon have to shell out more for their favourite drink. After hard liquor, now beer prices are also set to increase as the excise duty is set to be hiked.

The Excise Department plans to increase the prices by anywhere between Rs 8 to Rs 10 per 650 ml bottle of beer. Some liquor companies had already increased the prices at the beginning of this month.

Now, the excise department is planning on increasing the tax by 10 per cent. The price hike is for the second time in six months. The new rule is likely to be implemented in the last week of January or early February.

A seven-day period has been set for submitting objections and they can be sent to the principal secretary to the Finance department.
