Youths go on rampage, pelt stones at hospital in HD Kote after friend dies, allege negligence

MYSURU: Youths went on a rampage and threw stones at a hospital in H D Kote alleging medical negligence after a friend of theirs died.

The glass facade of the hospital was damaged in stone-throwing.

Iman (21), a resident of Muslim Block in the town, was admitted to St Mary’s hospital for treatment of intestinal infection. However, he died during surgery.

Enraged over his death, youths from the locality barged into the hospital and pelted stones and even staged a protest blocking the road.

The protesters had also blocked the road earlier.

“His appendix has been removed and the wound was being closed. when he had a cardiac arrest around 9.10 pm on Tuesday. The operation was started at 8.50 pm. He also had pulmonary oedema. We had done intubation and CPR, after which he recovered and started breathing on his own”, said a hospital doctor.

“We were planning to shift him to Mission Hospital in Mysuru and an ambulance had also arrived. But, by then, he had a second attack. We treated him and he recovered slightly again. Three of us doctors were accompanying him to Mission Hospital, but he died enroute”, the doctor said.
