BELAGAVI: The Gokak Town police have arrested one person for indulging in malpractice during the recruitment test for junior assistants held on August 7.

Siddappa Madihalli (21) of Naganur village in Mudalagi taluk had worn a smart watch while writing the test. He had taken a photo of the question paper and shared it with someone outside the exam centre at GSS College through WhatsApp.

The act was caught on CCTV camera and came to light when the examination authorities went through the footage. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged with the police.

The police have now formed two teams and are on the lookout for the person who provided Siddappa with the smart watch and received the question paper. It is suspected that more such cases of malpractice may come to light as the investigation gathers pace.

Belagavi Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil has informed the Karnataka Examinations Authority and provided all the details.

The KPTCL had conducted tests for recruitment of 600 junior assistants and about three lakh aspirants had appeared for it across the state.
