BENGALURU: With Vandita Sharma’s ascension to the topmost bureaucratic post in the state, the power corridors of the state are all set to see more women power after May 31.
The Karnataka government on Friday announced the appointment of Vandita Sharma, who will take over from incumbent P Ravi Kumar on May 31. She will hold office till November next year.
The seat of government, the Vidhana Soudha, will see Vandita Sharma as Chief Secretary, Assembly Secretary M K Vishalakshi and Council Secretary K R Mahalakshmi, thus creating a new record.
This is not the first time a woman has been appointed chief secretary in the state. In 2000, Theresa Bhattacharya held the post while in 2006, Malati Das and in 2017, K Ratnaprabha have been the top bureaucrats.
During Ratnaprabha’s tenure, the state’s topmost police officer, the DG&IGP was Neelamani N Raju.
