VIJAYAPURA: A gram panchayat president was injured after a man opened fire in the air with a weapon during the unfurling of the Tricolour on the occcasion of Republic Day at Hireroogi village in Indi taluk today morning.
The individual, identified as Mallu Ginni, opened one round of fire in the air while a second round, which reportedly misfired, grazed gram panchayat president Somavva (50) in the thigh.
Somavva was immediately rushed to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
