BENGALURU: A fake godman has been accused of cheating a woman of Rs 2.5 crore in the name of performing pujas for removing ‘evil forces’ and escaped.
The complainant had sold her house in Chamarajpet and gave the money to the fraudsters who had promised her Rs 10 crore if she gave Rs 2.5 crore, by making her believe that they would get Rs 500 crore released from the Reserve Bank.
Kumuda, a resident of Chamrajpet who is originally from Andhra Pradesh, has filed a complaint against fake Baba Afsar Pasha and middlemen Shankar and Bharat. She had become familiar with some middlemen when she was trying to get a loan on her house. A case has been registered against all three with the CCB police, and further investigation is under way.
Kumuda’s son had suffered serious injuries in a bike accident and the fraudsters convinced her that “evil forces” were the reason for her son’s condition. They introduced a Baba, took Rs 8 lakh, and performed puja at home. They convinced her that they will get Rs 500 crore from the Reserve Bank and promised her Rs 10 crore if she gave them Rs 2.5 crore as a loan and cheated her.
Kumuda sold her Chamrajpet house for Rs 8.5 crore and out of that money, she gave Rs 2.5 crore and got cheated. When she asked for the money back, they threatened to kill her.
The fake Baba Afsar Pasha came to the house and performed homa and havan by spending around Rs 8 lakh and made her do puja from 12 am till early morning. He told her the pooja materials used for the homa had to be immersed in a lake and himself took her and got them immersed in the lake.
When she realized she had been cheated and asked, he called her many times to KR Nagar and Mysuru and made her wait the whole day. He also gave her different gemstones and convinced her to keep them at home.
Bharat a.k.a Devaraj is from KR Pura in Bengaluru and has cheated many others there too. The woman who lost her money is now shedding tears and seeking justice.
