CHIKKAMAGALUR: A woman was found mysteriously dead at their house at Devavrinda village in Mudigere taluk on Monday. Following a complaint by her parents suspecting foul play, the Gonibeedu police have arrested the husband and produced him before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.
Shwetha (31) was married to Darshan, who was working as a lab technician in Bengaluru, three years ago. The couple had come to the village four days ago and Shwetha was found dead on Monday. Darshan allegedly tried to pass it off as a heart attack and was preparing to conduct the last rites. However, the woman’s parents stopped him and insisted on a post-mortem examination.
Darshan is alleged to have an illicit affair with a colleague. What gave rise to suspicion about his wife’s death was an prick mark found on her left hand. An audio clip of Shwetha talking to the other woman involved in the illict affair, asking the latter to stay away from her husband and her family, which is now doing the rounds, has given credence to the allegations.
After the post-mortem examination at the Mallegowda district hospital, doctors ruled out heart attack and said the exact cause of death will be revealed in the forensic lab report. The police have booked Darshan under IPC Section 302 for murder.
