SHIVAMOGGA: Senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa, who has announced his retirement from electoral politics, on Tuesday said that he will undertake any task assigned by the BJP leadership to bring the party back to power in the state.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, he said, “The BJP in the state has not once come to power in the state on its own strength and there is a need to strengthen the organisation. Senior leader B S Yediyurappa became Chief Minister on four occasions and Jagadish Shettar, D V Sadananda Gowda and Basavaraj Bommai too became chief ministers. The people of the state voted for us, but we did not get full majority. I will work to ensure that the BJP comes back to power with full majority and hence, I announced my retirement from electoral politics”.

“Bringing the BJP to power in the state will send a signal across the country and next year, I want to make my contribution towards bringing back the Narendra Modi-led administration back to power at the Centre. I am sure that the party will take my views into consideration”, he noted.

To a question, he said he had discussed with other senior leaders that he need not contest the election this time and not to consider his name for the candidature. “They said that I should contest the election, but I am sure that I do not want to contest”, he said.

He also said he will discharge any duties assigned to him by the state or central leadership towards bringing the party back to power in the state. “I am confident we will come back to power will full majority. As far as Shivamogga Assembly segment is concerned, the party central election committee will take a decision. I have not sought a ticket for anyone”, he added.
