HAVERI: A 16-year-old boy committed suicide by dousing himself in petrol and setting himself on fire, allegedly due to humiliation by the principal of the college where he was studying. The incident occurred at Dolleshwar village on Tuesday night and the deceased was identified as Aditya Raghuveer Chavan.

Aditya was a first year pre-university commerce student at CJC College in Hanagal town. A few days ago, the college principal Anitha Hosamani reportedly called Aditya’s father Raghuveer Chavan to inform him that the boy was not attending classes regularly. According to the boy, the principal had also humiliated him in front of the other students in college.

Upset over this, he doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire. His statement was recorded on a mobile phone while he was being taken to a hospital in Hubballi. The boy did not respond to treatment and died on Tuesday night at KIMS. The Hanagal police have registered a case.
