BENGALURU: A newlywed woman committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in her house due to alleged harassment from her husband in in-laws, at Sunkadakatte in Kamakshipalya police limits late on Sunday night. The deceased Shwetha (25) was married only four months ago and has blamed her husband and sister-in-law in her death note.
Shwetha, who hailed from Chikkamagalur, was working as a teacher. In her death note, she mentioned her husband and his elder sister as being responsible for her death and asked her mother not to spare them. “They have been harassing me a lot and I have no desire to live”, she mentioned.

Shwetha and Murthy had falled in love and had got married four months ago at the Shakti Ganapathi temple in Kamalanagar. Her Mother Pushpa said, “After marriage, the husband and his sister started harassing Shwetha for dowry. I had not disclosed about the wedding, but they pressured her upload the wedding photos on social media. Shwetha had said that come what may, she would not end her life and would be my support. They have killed such a strong girl”.
Shwetha and Murthy first met on Instagram and fell in love and despite opposition from his family, the two got married at a temple. and were living in Lakshman Nagar. For Shwetha had reportedly confessed to her mother that for the last three months, she was facing constant harassment.

After an argument with her husband, Shwetha had sent a death note on WhatsApp to her mother around 2.30 pm on Sunday. Pushpa immediately called her daughter and consoled her. However, around 11.30 pm on Sunday, Shwetha hanged herself to death.
Based on a complaint from Shwetha’s family, the Kamakshipalya police have arrested Murthy and are on the lookout for his elder sister. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
In another incident, a newlywed died at the Nelamangala government hospital after consuming poison at her house in Yelahanka on Monday. The deceased was identified as Thanuja (31), hailing from Beerammanahalli in Gouribidanur taluk.

Thanuja had fallen in love with Ravindra, a resident of Mayasandra in Yelahanka, at work and the two had got married in Dharmasthala. Ravindra had not disclosed about the marriage to his family saying that he would do so in the coming day and had put up Thanuja at a rented house in Singapura.
On Sunday, Thanuja called Ravindra home, but he told her he would come on Monday morning. Upset over this, Thanuja sent Ravindra a message around 10 pm stating that she had consumed poison at was at Basavanahalli and switched off her phone.
Ravindra rushed to the spot and shifted Thanuja to hospital, but she had died by then. The Nelamangala Town police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
