RAICHUR: Two pedestrians died while two others sustained injuries after being run over by a pickup truck at in Jalahalli of Devadurga taluk on Wednesday night. The family members of the deceased and villagers staged protest by blocking the road on Thursday.
While 45-year-old Hanumaiah and 33-year-old Ningaiah died in accident, Ramalingappa and Ranganatha Naik sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment in RIMS hospital.
The pickup vehicle hit the pedestrians and the driver absconded along with vehicle. The protesters were demanding justice to the families of the deceased. It is alleged that unscientific digging beside the road for the Jal Jeevan Mission project is the cause for the accident.
Villagers expressed outrage saying accident occurred because road was dug and left as it is without putting warning boards. They protested with the dead bodies of the victims at Ambedkar circle in Jalahalli.
