CHIKKABALLAPUR: Heaps of stones have been found in bags of fertiliser purchased by farmers at Kothanur in Chikkaballapur.
Farmers grow crops after spending thousands of rupees and purchase fertiliser hoping for good crop. But in bags of muriate of potash (MOP) fertiliser purchased by farmers, heaps of stones were found, surprising not only farmers, but also officials who came for inspection.
The incident occurred at the Agrimart near Kothanur of Chikkaballapur city. Many farmers had purchased MOP potassium fertiliser for various horticultural crops including pomegranate, grapes. But shock was in store when a fertilizer bag was opened and seen. Along with fertiliser, heaps of stones were found inside a bag.
In the background of huge size stones being found, farmers have expressed outrage and expressed dissatisfaction against the Agrimart owner. After farmers complained to agriculture department, officials visited Agrimart and conducted inspection. Officials inspected many MOP fertiliser bags in the shop and huge size stones were found.
A notice has been issued to stop sale of MOP fertiliser at the Agrimart concerned. Further, agriculture department officials have collected samples of fertilizer and process of sending them for testing is under way.
