CHITRADURGA: Two groups of councillors of the Holalkere Town Municipal Council clashed with stones and sticks over the issue of demolition of an old overhead water tank at Holalkere in the district on Thursday. A woman councillor sustained injuries in the clash.

The woman councillor was also attacked.

The fight broke out between councillors K C Ramesh and Sudha Basavaraj right in the presence of the tahsildar Fathima, who left as things took a violent turn, and executive officer Wasim. It is said that Ramesh and his supporters were eyeing the land where the overhead water tank stood while Sudha Basavaraj and her supporters wanted to save the land.

K C Ramesh, Diwakar and Purushothan and their supporters unleashed an attack on Sudha and her husband. Both sides have since lodged complaints against each other at the Holalkere police station. Videos of the incident have since gone viral.

Both councillors belong to the BJP, but Ramesh had supported Congress candidate and former minister Anjaneya in the 2023 Assembly election. Sudha Basavaraj is a supporter of sitting MLA Chandrappa.
