Tusker creating havoc in villages around Bandipur finally captured

CHAMARAJANAGAR: A lone tusker, which had created havoc in the villages on the fringers of the Bandipur tiger reserve, was captured with the help of five trained elephants and sent to the forest camp in Ramapura.

The tusker, aged about 35 years, which had been escaping sighting, was located with the help of a drone near Guddekeri in Yelachatti. It was then darted and captured with the help of the trained elephants.

The tusker had been causing numerous problems in villages like damaging solar fencing, entering houses on the forest fringes and taking taking rice and vegetables and damaging standing crops.

Conservator of Forests Dr Ramesh Kumar P said, “The tusker, aged about 35, was giving a lot of trouble to farmers. We visited Hundipura on June 1 and assured the villagers that we will capture the elephant. For the last three days, we had been tracking the elephant and we caught it today”.
