HASSAN: A group of over 60 tourists from Bengaluru were sent back after they created a ruckus at the historic Bettada Bhairaveshwara Temple in Maragunda village of Sakleshpur taluk, two days ago.

The tourists pressured the police, forest and security personnel to open the temple gate and even got into an argument. Following strong outrage from locals, MLA Cement Manju and tahsildar Suprita visited the spot and held a meeting with locals. The police have increased security at the temple to put a brake on tourist misbehavior.

Hundreds of tourists from other districts come daily to Bettada Bhairaveshwara Temple. The taluk administration has closed the main gate and is allowing entry into the temple only through a small gate. Despite that, youths insisted on opening the main gate.

The police sent the tourists out of the temple and requested them to behave calmly. The Sakleshpur Rural police took the passenger vehicles and motorcycles to the police station, warned them, and sent them back.
