Three youths die after drowning in Cauvery river near Kushalnagar

MADIKERI: Three youths who had gone for a swim in the Cauvery river, died after drowning near Hale Kudige in Kushalnagar taluk on Thursday. While one body was fished out yesterday evening, two other bodies were brought up today.

The deceased are Srinivas a.k.a. Appu (23) of Chikkattur, Hakke Sachin (25) of Kanive and Vinod (25) from Janata Colony in Mullusoge. The three, along with another friend, had parked their car by the riverside and gone for a swim.

One of them drowned in a deep part of the river and on seeing him drown, another rushed to his rescue. On seeing both drown, a third youth rushed to save them, but all three drowned. Srinivas’ body was pulled out of the water on Thursday evening and doctors at Kushalnagar confirmed his death.

The bodies were shifted to hospital for autopsy.

The search for the other two by the Fire and Emergency Services and a few rafting teams from Dubare continued till 8 pm yesterday, but could not be found. The operation was resumed today and the two other bodies were finally fished out and sent to the government hospital in Kushalnagar for post-mortem examination.

Police superintendent Ramarajan, Additional SP Sunder Raj, tahsildar Kiran Gowraiah and other officials visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Kushalnagar Rural police station.
