Three miscreants assault auto driver, damage vehicle for voting for BJP in Shivamogga

SHIVAMOGGA: Three miscreants attacked an autorickshaw driver in Sominakoppa Layout here on Monday for saying he had voted for the BJP.

The autorickshaw driver Harish Rao was attacked while he was driving his auto. The miscreants asked Harish who he had voted for in the election. When he said that he voted for BJP, the trio assaulted him and overturned the auto. They damaged the front glass with the a rod and the roof was completely torn out.

In a video that has gone viral, the auto driver is seen telling senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa that he is a kidney patient. According to Harish, the accused are Dabba alias Nazru, Idli alias Abrar, and another youth, all residents of Sominakoppa. He also claimed that they threatened him of his life. Harish Rao later lodged a complaint with the District Superintendent of Police and at the jurisdictional police station.

When he came to file a complain, he met former minister K S Eshwarappa at the SP’s office and sought protection. Then, Eshwarappa immediately spoke to the district officers and requested them to provide protection to the auto driver and insisted to take stern action against the accused. He had given Rs 20,000 as compensation to the autorickshaw driver.
