BENGALURU: A three-day-old infant requiring open heart surgery was brought to the Narayana Hrudayalaya here from the Sarji Hospital in Shivamogga by ambulance in zero traffic.

The ambulance left Shivamogga at 10.10 pm on Sunday night and arrived at Narayana Hrudayalaya at 1.30 am on Monday.

Staff nurse Hanumantha cradled the baby in his arms all through the journey.

The infant is being treated at the neonatal ICU and was kept under observation as it had developed pneumonia. A team of expert doctors is monitoring the health of the child and the open heart surgery will be done after the infant overcomes pneumonia, the Narayana Health City said in a statement.

Interestingly, while the infant was being brought to Bengaluru by ambulance driver Jagadish and staff nurses Vinay and Hanumantha, the latter cradled the baby in his arms all through the journey.
