BENGALURU: In an early morning operation, the Forest Department officials have arrested three people for killing a deer and sharing its meat near the popular tourist spot Mutyalmadu in Anekal taluk. Three others, however, managed to escape.
A group of six people hunted a deer around 3 am on a private land. They shared the meat and three of them were heading out on two-wheelers, when the Forest Department officials, acting on specific information, intercepted them and arrested them with the venison.
The officials then brought the arrested to the spot where they had hunted the deer when three others, who were in a car, fled the scene. The Forest officials found an single barrel gun, a machete and venison in the car. They have seized the car and three two-wheelers along with the meat.
The arrested are Devaraju (40) of Maralavadi in Harohalli taluk, Ramakrishna (40) from Aadoor in Anekal taluk and Kishore (23) from Indlawadi in Anekal taluk.
Anekal Range Forest Officer M Raghu said they had received information about the presence of hunters in the Tamil Nadu border following which the elephant response team launched an operation.
“We received information about the six accused and our team was immediately alerted. The six men had come in a Ford car and three two-wheelers. Three of them were arrested after they had hunted the deer and were leaving with the meat while the three others escaped. A team had been formed to nab them”, he added.
