HASSAN: Thieves broke into the house of a forest officer and made away with Rs 2 lakh in cash and gold and silver articles worth Rs 6.26 lakh, at Jayanagar here when the family was away.
The thieves had pried open the front door with a sharp object and the theft came to light when the family returned home on Thursday.
Deputy Range Forest Officer Girish Nayak and his family had left for Karkala on January 7 to attend the wedding of his nephew. The police visited the spot and have registered a case. They are now on the lookout for the culprits.
