Temple car set on fire in Gubbi taluk, Gorakhpur native arrested

TUMAKURU: The police have arrested a man hailing from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh for setting fire to the car (rath) belonging to the historical Kalleshwara temple at Pura village near Nittur in Gubbi taluk. The arrested is Udari (32).

The accused had placed some dry coconut fronds next to the car and set it on fire on Monday. Two residents of the village, Renukappa and Shantaraju, had witnessed the act. The villagers then caught hold of Udari and handed him over to the police.

The arrested accused hails from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

The temple comes under the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department and the damage to the car, which was completely charred, is estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh. A case has been registered at the Gubbi police station for damage to public property.
