BENGALURU: The city police have arrested a techie for targeting good-looking married women on social media and threatening them with their photos.
Women sharing their photos on social media is very common, but they should be aware of how it will hurt them as there may be chances of cyber criminals misusing those photos.
The techie Faisal, who hails from Assam, worked as a software engineer in Bengaluru. He would open fake accounts on Instagram and Facebook to target married women and send them friend requests through the fake account. Once they accepted his friend request, he started chatting with them by texting ‘hi’, ‘good morning’, ‘good night’.
Faisal easily trapped women with his smooth talking. He would also develop physical contact with them by calling them to a private place, where he would record videos of their intimate moments.
A few days later, Faisal would start calling the women repeatedly and insist on physical contact, and then would start asking for lakhs of rupees. If they did not agree, he threatened them by saying that he would send those private videos to their husbands and that he would shame them on social media.
One of the women victims from HSR Layout, who was fed up with his threat, lodged a complaint. The police registered the case and asked the woman to message Faisal, asking for his location. He then told her to come to a lodge in Chennai, At that time, the city police arrested him.
The police are interrogating him and have found some evidence on his mobile phone which reveals he has committed similar acts in the past.
