DAVANAGERE: Umesh Jamdar, who won gold at the South Asian Wrestling Championship in the 65 kg category, has been training at the Sports Hostel here for the last six years.
In the finals held in Thailand recently, Umesh beat his Malaysian competitor 10-0 to clinch the gold medal.
Hailing from Kohinoor village in Basavakalyan taluk of Bidar village, Umesh moved to Davanagere to pursue his training. He drew national attention after winning gold twice at the national championship.
