CHITRADURGA: Two groups of the Chalavadi community engaged in a verbal duel at a preparatory meeting to discuss the construction of a math in Chitradurga today.
Some of the devotees even took the Chalavadi Gurupeetha math head Basavanagi Deva to task following differences of opinion.
The argument broke out over the issue of giving representation to the community from all districts for construction of the math. The devotees had convened for a preliminary meeting to discuss construction of the math. Things went to such a passe that some of the devotees almost came to blows.
Even as the drama unfolded, the Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes chairperson and MLA Neharu Olekar and the math trust chairman Lakshminarasaiah sat as mute spectators.
The situation calmed down only after the intervention of the police.
