Six injured after dilapidated hotel building collapses in Madikeri district

MADIKERI: Six people were injured after a dilapidated hotel building collapsed near the main road in Gonikoppa of Ponnampet taluk on Thursday.

In one part, there was a hotel in a dilapidated old building and a mutton shop in the other. The building was completely dilapidated. Six people were injured after being caught in the debris.

On getting information about the incident, firefighters and locals rescued those trapped under the debris and the injured were rushed to a hospital.

A customer, Madhu, who had come to the hotel for lunch, suffered a fracture in the leg and was admitted to the hospital in Gonikoppa. Police said that another customer suffered head injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Mysuru.

A local said that this building was 80 years old. He also said there are more such old buildings in the town and they have to be vacated.
