TUMAKURU: In an embarasment for the Congress government in the state, Gubbi MLA S R Srinivas said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may have to resign if the party does not secure a good number of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

At a Congress campaign meeting held in Tiptur on Friday, Srinivas, who was campaigning for party candidate Muddahanume Gowda, said, “Today, our party government is ruling in the state. If the Congress does not get a good number of seats in the Lok Sabha election, Siddaramaiah will have to take moral responsibility and step down”.

Further, Srinivas said, “We all have to work hard to safeguard Siddaramaiah who has worked for the poor. All party workers should make efforts to save Siddaramaiah”, before concluding his speech.

Reacting to this in Hubballi, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said, “BJP and JD(S), in alliance will make a clean sweep in the parliamentary polls in the state like we did in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in the previous election. Siddaramaiah will have to step down as CM if his party so decides. We will not demand that he should step down. I cannot react to what a Congress MLA has said, but there are lot of internal differences in that party”.
