DHARWAD: Senior writer Gurulinga Kapse (96), who was a recipient of the Central Sahitya Academi and Rajyotsava awards, died at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Arrangements were made for people to pay their last respects at Kapse’s house at Durga Colony here. Minister Santosh Lad was among those those who paid their last respects and expressed condolences.
Gurulinga Kapse, a wellknown writer, was former president of the Kannada Sahitya Academy. He hailed from Loni BK Vilalge in Indi taluk of Vijayapura district and was born on April 2, 1928.
Kapse had done extensive research on Madura Chenna (Hasalangi Chennamallappa), Akka Mahadevi, Basavaeshwara among others and had translated several works from Marathi to Kannada. He had also written children’s literature.
A recepient of several awards, Kapse was close to Da Ra Bendre, Madhura Chenna among others. At the age of 18, he took up the job of a teacher in his village and later moved to Dharwad.
